My Moan: Have A Right Old Whinge!

Updated 2016-12-10

HairpullThis is the ‘my moan’ section on Scotland Welcomes You.

Almost everyone has something to gripe about, you know, those annoying little things that get right under your skin, up your nose, or make you want to scream. My old granny used to say “If something’s annoying you, let it out”, and that’s what you can do here ….. let it out! So let’s have your comments, but please remember this is a family site, and thanks in advance.

‘My Moan’ star letter was sent in by Patrick Ryan, from the UK …

Having decided to venture out to Largs to take in the pleasant surroundings and finish off some of the day by having a spot of lunch, accompanied by my wife and an elderly friend we managed to park on the main street opposite THE BAGEL BASKET, hence our reason for choosing this particular place to eat. Initially i personally sensed an unpleasant atmosphere or maybe i was too quick to criticise, however my sixth sense proved otherwise.

After seating ourselves and not knowing how they operated it apparantely came to light that you ordered at the main serving area paid upfront for your orders which i felt left you in an awkward position if you did not savour their food, but anyway the service was dismal and i mean that by basically everything we ordered arrived at the table at the same time. When i questioned the waiter about this his reply was ‘well you did order all of this’. I know we did i replied. Basically, what anyone would have expected was to be served in stages of the food that we ordered.

I believe he knew we weren’t happy with the food and the service, he blatantly made no attempt to rectify anything. It was more or less you’ve paid for your food take it or leave it. On leaving, i did comment to the waiter at the door that his food was crap,(harsh words maybe?) but his reaction was to say i deal with people like you all the time and to add insult to injury he suggested there were more places to eat and don’t bother coming back so make of that what you wish. I would like the person in question to defend himself if he wishes and explain his unprofessional approach to customers who he gave, like myself, reason to complain.

P.S please forward this message to the manager for his attention. I hope the chap at the door with the apron on wasn’t the owner.(GOD HELP US)

EDITORS NOTE:

I had the same experience, but new owners took over in 2014 and The Bagel Basket has won the “Best Cafe/Bistro In Scotland” award. More Info

More of your moans …..

Alan, Scotland, says :
I am in fuel poverty just coming to work. £52 to fill the fiesta, and I earn £20k a year to do 45 hours a week. That’s 16%. Public transport would take me 1 and a half hours to complete my 25 minute journey. Where’s the sense in that?

Margaret Murphy, Australia, says :
Hi, I am from Melbourne (orignally from Glasgow – 1973) and one of my pet moans is … Ozzie Drivers! They are arrogant, push in, never indicate and basically are all round BAD DRIVERS! Interesting thing, they have never heard of “keep to the left unless overtaking”. They “skoot” past you anyway they can GGGrrrrr!! Cheers, M (I miss Auld Glesga Toon).

Violet, United States, says :
The one thing that irritates me the most are the parents who do not supervise their children in supermarkets, etc. They let them run riot all over the place and God forbid you say something, which I have, and got some dirty looks at that, plus a few nasty comments. I felt at the time my commenting on the kids being out of control was after two children got in a pushing fight and a very large box of laundry detergent fell on my foot. I could hardly walk for days. Would never have happened with my kids back in those days, they knew better than to misbehave.
